Public Hearings

The Royal Commission will be conducting extensive public consultations across Newfoundland and Labrador. See a list of dates and venues below.

Meet & Greet
Each public consultation begins at 6:30 p.m. with an opportunity to meet the Commissioners, have a tea or coffee and review a couple of brief handouts.

Public Consultation
The ‘town hall’ style session begins at 7:00 p.m. with Mr. Vic Young, Chair of the Royal Commission, providing an overview of the Commission and its work. By way of introduction Mr. Young will address two key questions: Why was a Royal Commission established? And why is the Commission conducting public meetings?

Participant Input
Following the introduction, participants are asked to review and briefly discuss with those around them a list of issues facing Newfoundland and Labrador. Participants then identify the issues they believe are the most important. This exercise provides the Royal Commission with invaluable information on what the citizens of the province believe are the key issues and also serves to focus the discussion for the evening.

In order to maximize participation of those present we are asking participants with formal presentations to speak only to the key issues in their reports and not read them into the public record at the meeting. We encourage those with formal presentations to submit them to the Commission at the meeting or via mail before December 16, 2002.

Therefore, those wishing to attend these sessions do not need to have a prepared presentation. The public consultations provide an opportunity for people to put forward ideas and to engage in a lively, interactive and honest discussion with their neighbors, friends and with the Commissioners. We look forward to seeing you there.
