Public Engagement

In addition to supporting Councils to conduct public engagement activities, the Rural Secretariat also assists departments to design and deliver their own public engagement initiatives. It also periodically convenes public engagement initiatives and activities on themes deemed to be of particular importance to rural sustainability, often in partnership with rural stakeholders including other departments.

The Rural Secretariat is employing a wide range of innovative participatory engagement methods and tools in its work including audience response polling technology. Staff have received advanced training and mentoring related to the design and delivery of innovative and interactive forums and town hall events via the Rural Secretariat’s partnership with the US-based AmericaSpeaks organization.
