Lisa Densmore

Lisa Densmore was born in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL. She graduated from Goose High School and went off to Mount Saint Vincent University in Bedford, Nova Scotia. During her time at university, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. After graduating, she stayed in Nova Scotia and worked for two more years when the opportunity for a job came up back home. She packed up and brought her son and new fiancé to Goose.

Lisa has been happily living and working in Labrador ever since. She has converted her husband into an avid hunter and fisherman and also completed her family with a beautiful daughter.

Over the past ten years she has been working in the social science field with a focus on community development. She has spent time employed with both the Federal and Provincial governments and has enjoyed the experience she has gained. As the Regional Partnership Planner for Labrador, she is committed to doing her best for every community of Labrador and her Regional Council. She is looking forward to continuing her efforts as the Planner for Labrador.

Nina Mitchelmore

Nina Mitchelmore received her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Memorial University of Newfoundland majoring in Psychology and minoring in Sociology in 1999. Since that time, she has worked in both the social and economic development fields. Before accepting the position with the Rural Secretariat, Nina was employed as a Development Officer with Nordic Economic Development Corporation.

During her employment and her volunteer activities, she has worked with many groups and individuals in the region. She currently volunteers with the local figure skating club and past volunteer experience has included working with the Straits Literacy Council.

Nina currently resides in Green Island Cove with her husband Sheldon and two children, Skye and Slayde. In the past, Nina lived in a number of areas of the province but returned home when she started her family. In her spare time, Nina enjoys reading and weekends at the cabin.

Dr. Greg Wood

Greg grew up in Lewisporte, Newfoundland, completed degrees at Memorial University (B.P.E, B.Ed), and taught physical education at various levels in northern Newfoundland and Labrador for 9 years. Seeking new experiences he moved with his family to Edmonton and completed an MA (Outdoor Education Leadership) and Ph.D. (Curriculum & Instruction, Secondary Education) at the University of Alberta. Returning to Newfoundland, Greg joined the faculty of Memorial University in 1989 serving as assistant professor, associate professor and associate director of the School of Physical Education and Athletics. In 1998 joined the College of North Atlantic as a faculty member in the Adventure Tourism program, and over a period of 6 years fulfilled roles as instructor, program development coordinator, and Associate District Administrator. From 2004-2006 Greg managed the development of the newly created Gros Morne Institute for Sustainable Tourism, a centre of excellence for sustainable nature-based tourism, subsequently returning to the College of the North Atlantic as Program Development Coordinator in the School of Tourism and Natural Resources. Not to let the grass too tall under his feet, Greg was seconded in February 2008 to the Regional Partnership Planner position for the Rural Secretariat. He is looking forward to working with the many community partners to assist in the sustainable development of the province.

Greg has held volunteer positions with numerous associations: NL Cross Country Ski Association, Cross Country Canada, Canadian Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, Adventure Tourism Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, International Appalachian Trail (Newfoundland and Labrador), and the Deer Lake Tourism Development Corporation. He has also worked as a contractual guide and business owner leading international tourists to remote destinations in Newfoundland and Northern Labrador. Greg lives in Deer Lake where he loves to play guitar, and garden, kayak, hike and telemark ski with his spouse Joanne.

Sam Organ

Sam Organ has over 20 years combined experience in private industry and business/community economic development.

He began his career with Fishery Products International in Ramea where he was employed for 11 years. As the fishery started to decline, Sam continued with his post-secondary education in business studies which include diplomas in Business Administration, Accounting, and Business Computer Applications. He also attended the University of Waterloo in Ontario and attained a certificate in Community Economic Development. He was later employed in Burgeo as an Economic Development Officer with the Rural Development Association.

During the next number of years, Sam was employed as an Economic Development Officer in various locations within the province. He spent a short tenure in St. John’s as Executive Assistant to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the province before moving to Port aux Basques in 2001 to accept a position as an Economic Development Officer with the Department of Industry, Trade and Rural Development. He was in that position until September, 2005 when he accepted employment with the Rural Secretariat and moved to Stephenville.

 

Grand Falls-Windsor - Baie Verte - Harbour Breton
 
Linda Brett

Linda Brett is the Regional Partnership Planner for Baie Verte - Grand Falls-Windsor - Harbour Breton Region. She has been promoting economic development for the past nine years as the executive director for the Emerald Zone Corporation (EZC), a regional economic development board for the Baie Verte Peninsula and Green Bay area. Previously, she was an administrator with the former Central Newfoundland Community College. Her education background includes Bachelor’s Degrees in Science and Education with mathematics major and a Masters Degree, M.ED., along with extensive courses in the Certified General Accountant program. .

Community development involves building consensus on shared goals. Having everyone pulling in the same direction is the first step in achieving results. This often involves extensive public consultations and research. In a region beset by high unemployment and rising out migration, there are often conflicting and competing views on what needs to be done. Sorting through these concerns is how Linda Brett sees her role as a Regional Partnership Planner.

Originally an educator, she has remained faithful to her first vocation during several changes of location. Never one to let education interfere with neither learning nor location with teaching, she has instructed canoeing, cross-country skiing and Sunday Youth School while continuing to learn in the process. Linda Brett and husband Jerry, parents of three children, reside in Springdale.

Tanya Noble

Tanya Noble is the Regional Partnership Planner for the Gander- New Wes Valley Region of the Rural Secretariat.

Her educational background is a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from the University of New Brunswick. Tanya has worked primarily for the Forest Industry in British Columbia, Ontario, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Throughout her career, she has been involved in long-term, sustainable development, environmental management and promoting community awareness in such matters.

After living in rural and urban areas throughout Canada, Tanya, husband Dion, and their two small children saw the many benefits of moving back to her home town, Centreville. They look forward to raising their children in a safe, healthy, and prosperous community and region.

 

Clarenville - Bonavista
 
Colin Holloway
Regional Partnership Planner

Colin Holloway has been an employee of the Public Service for over 17 years. During this time, he has held several regional positions including Child Management Specialist, Senior Therapist for the Provincial Autism Pilot and Regional Planner with the former Strategic Social Plan and worked with the Department of Social Services, the Department of Human Resources Labour & Employment, and the Health & Community Services Eastern Board. He currently holds the position of Regional Partnership Planner and is responsible for the Clarenville-Bonavista Rural Secretariat region.

Colin has a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Psychology from Memorial University of Newfoundland. As well, Colin is a certified trainer in Applied Behaviour Analysis through Harvard University. He is currently pursuing Masters of Employment Relations at Memorial University.

As a community volunteer, Colin resides in Clarenville and he has served on many boards including the former Vista School Board, the Clarenville and Area Alternative Measure Program, and the Official Board of the Port Blandford Pastoral Charge. Colin is the Chairperson for the Neighbourhood of Friends Family Resource Centre, as well as a volunteer with the Clarenville SPCA and an executive board member for the Clarenville-Bonavista Branch of Crime Stoppers.

 

Burin Peninsula
 
Greg Dominaux

Originally from Grand Bank on the Burin Peninsula, Greg graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Bachelor of Commerce Co-op program in 1999. Since that time he has held many positions with various organizations in the community development field.

Getting his start with the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Technology Industries, Greg moved on to do work with the Red Ochre Regional Board and the NL Federation of Co-operatives as a Micro Business Lending Officer. Finally, in 2003 Greg found himself back on the Burin Peninsula living in his hometown as the Executive Director for the Schooner Regional Development Corporation and in 2005 he joined the Rural Secretariat team.

When not at work Greg volunteers as a coach with his son’s pre-novice hockey team and as vice-president of the United Towns Minor Hockey Association.

Ken Carter

Ken Carter has a Philosophy degree, a Masters in the Philosophy of Humanities and an MBA from Memorial University.

He was an entrepreneur in the restaurant and accommodations industry for seven years. He also has seven years experience in economic development in St. Anthony and Corner Brook working with entrepreneurs and community groups on the West Coast and the Northern Peninsula.

He lives in Harbour Grace where he is married with five children.

Jamilee Fitzpatrick

Jamilee Fitzpatrick was born and raised in Placentia. In 1998, she graduated from Memorial University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and Business and a Criminology Certificate. Her professional experience includes work in community and regional development with particular emphasis on long-term planning, partnership development and the use of evidence in decision making. She has facilitated the work of various multi-sectoral committees and planning teams to develop and implement strategies; and provide advice and guidance on social and economic issues.

She has worked with government and community based partners. Her experience has allowed her to develop multi-sectoral partnerships to addressing issues in a collaborative manner. Each position that she has held has involved stakeholder consultation and required leadership, communication, coordination and implementation of economic and social initiatives.

Jamilee currently resides in Placentia with her husband and two children.
