Student Summer Employment Program

The objective of the Opening Doors Student Summer Employment Program is to provide post-secondary students with disabilities career-related work experience. Summer employment opportunities provide students with practical skills and knowledge to prepare them for their future entry into the labour market.

From June to August, post-secondary students with disabilities will be available to work in provincial government departments with all associated salary costs provided by the Office of Employment Equity for Persons with Disabilities. Placements will be for a ten-week period and participants will be paid at the regular summer student rate.

Proposals will be evaluated based on the validity and worth of the work involved to the student and how closely it compliments their post-secondary training. Matching of students to proposals will occur in early June. If a successful match is made, a representative with this office will contact the departmental representative to facilitate the placement process.

It will be the responsibility of the employing Department to provide a suitable work space and the equipment necessary, i.e. computer, to perform the duties of the placement.
