The Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of Women

The Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of Women (PACSW) is an arms-length, legislated body connected to individual women and equality-seeking women’s organizations throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. The Advisory Council monitors Government action, provides independent advice, and lobbies on behalf of the women in the Province. The PACSW uses its strong connection to women’s groups to provide information and analysis to Government about the differing impacts of programs, policies, services and legislation on women, families and communities.

Mandate:

The Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of Women is mandated by the Status of Women Advisory Council to:

  • advise the Minister on those matters relating to the status of women that the Minister refers to the advisory council for consideration;
  • advise the Minister on those matters relating to the status of women that the advisory council feels appropriate; and
  • bring before the government and the public matters of interest and concern to women; and
  • establish the general policies that will govern the organization, administration and operation of the advisory council.”

Mission:

  • To provide for Newfoundland and Labrador women and women’s equality-seeking groups an organization which works for the social, cultural, economic, legal and political equality of women.
