The Minister Responsible for the Status of Women
and Lead Minister for the Violence Prevention Initiative is the
Honourable Joan Burke. Minister Burke is also the
Minister of Education and MHA for the district of St.
Georges-Stephenville East. |
The Minister Responsible for the Status of Women makes
recommendations to Cabinet and represents the interests of women in
all policy matters. The Minister meets at least once a year with
federal, provincial, and territorial counterparts to discuss areas
of mutual concern. It is also the Minister’s responsibility to act
as an advocate for women’s issues when dealing with other Ministers
and to encourage them to consider women’s perspectives in their
decision making.
This government believes that incorporating women’s perspectives on
social and economic issues into the mainstream of decision making
will foster a more equitable and prosperous society, of benefit to
us all. |
